“We really want to make sure we bring closure to this, not just for the families but our community,” Chief Johnson said. He adds that they have leads in the cases, and that they wish they could have closed these cases out before, but they want to make sure they make the best case possible. He adds that evidence is still being processed, and they are waiting for results. Johnson said investigators continue to talk with witnesses or others involved. Police Chief Kelley Johnson said in DeLee’s homicide, they have a person of interest already in custody, but it is on unrelated charges, and no charges have been pressed in DeLee’s homicide.
McDonald, a clerk at the AOC Texaco was killed back in August, and DeLee was shot and killed in November. Kizer, a 17-year-old from Hoover was killed in a shooting in July. They all have this in common: victims of Sylacauga’s 2018 homicides. Although their names, ages and genders may be different.
